Vertical Reference Training
Elements of the practical routines:
Hovering
- Maintaining position within +/- 2 feet longitudinally and laterally above selected site.
- Maintaining recommended hovering altitude within +/- 2 feet.
- Maintaining specific heading +/- 10 degrees.
- Vertical climb to 200 feet above ground, staying there for a set time and vertical descent.
Vertical landing from a hover
- Landing with the aft right section of the skid within +/- 6 inches of target
- Maintaining skid alignment within +/- 10 degrees.
Vertical takeoff to a hover
- Terminating in a hover while clearing the tail rotor.
- Maintaining position within +/- 2 feet longitudinally and laterally above selected area.
- Maintaining skid alignment within +/- 10 degrees.
For tail rotor reference manoeuvres students must demonstrate the ability to:
- Make 90°, 180°, 360° pivoting turns about the tail.
- Maintain constant rate of turn.
- Maintain tail rotor position within +/- 2 feet longitudinally and laterally above selected area.
- Maintain recommended hovering altitude within +/- 2 feet.
