Vertical Reference Training

Elements of the practical routines:

Hovering
  1. Maintaining position within +/- 2 feet longitudinally and laterally above selected site.
  2. Maintaining recommended hovering altitude within +/- 2 feet.
  3. Maintaining specific heading +/- 10 degrees.
  4. Vertical climb to 200 feet above ground, staying there for a set time and vertical descent.
Vertical landing from a hover
  1. Landing with the aft right section of the skid within +/- 6 inches of target
  2. Maintaining skid alignment within +/- 10 degrees.
Vertical takeoff to a hover
  1. Terminating in a hover while clearing the tail rotor.
  2. Maintaining position within +/- 2 feet longitudinally and laterally above selected area.
  3. Maintaining skid alignment within +/- 10 degrees.
For tail rotor reference manoeuvres students must demonstrate the ability to:
  1. Make 90°, 180°, 360° pivoting turns about the tail.
  2. Maintain constant rate of turn.
  3. Maintain tail rotor position within +/- 2 feet longitudinally and laterally above selected area.
  4. Maintain recommended hovering altitude within +/- 2 feet.
