Detailed theoretical briefing before and after flights

The Introduction Course offers a short but intensive insight into the individual routine units of the Vertical Reference Training.

The course begins with several theoretical explanations concerning the individual landing routines within the range of the marked helipads. The various possibilities for positioning the helicopter along the rectangular helipads and special techniques relating to the vertical reference points are discussed. During the introduction course participants learn how to land the helicopter with utmost precision on the different markings simply by looking back and to the side, or, in the case of Robinson helicopter, by looking back and to the right side.

With this special technique the entire helicopter can be landed and lifted up with precision, just by considering the right skid and the corresponding aft right-hand connecting point between strut and skid.

A further focus of the introduction training course is the pilot’s seating position which newcomers may be unfamiliar with. In Robinson helicopters pilots must bring themselves into a lateral position so that the seating position grants the best possible view over their right shoulder to the aft right-hand strut.

The four practical routine units consist of briefings before and after the flights as well as 10 minutes flight time.
