Long Line Training Course
Stage 2
(5 flight lessons / about 2 training days)
- Basic knowledge of utility flights with external cargo
- Introduction to flying with a 200 foot (60 m) utility Long Line
- Ground instructions
Components of the practical flight exercises:
- Picking up rope
- Hovering with rope
- Laying down rope
- Lane work: approaching the unloading site
- Evidence of directional control while hovering
- Taking off
- Acceleration from a hover
- Straight & level
- Flight at operational air speeds
- Climbs & descents
- Turns
- Approaches and departures to and from landing or working area
Stage 3
(10 flight lessons / 4 training days)
- Advanced routines flying with external cargo / logging (work with wooden beams as external load)
- Advanced Long Line routines
- Ground instructions
Components of the practical flight exercises:
- Picking up rope
- Hovering with rope
- Laying down rope
- Lane work: approaching the unloading site
- Taking off
- Acceleration from a hover
- Straight & level
- Flight at operational air speeds
- Climbs & descents
- Turns
- Approaches and departures to and from landing or working area
- Practising placing the lifting hook exactly into the hands of the marshaller on the first approach
- Approaching target
- Cooperation with ground crew
- Hand signals recognition
- Air / Ground communication
